Incredibly Blessed To Live On Staten Island!

As we plunge into the holiday season, it's all about giving back to those in need. A dojo in Eltingville knows this spirit of charity better than anyone else.

Earlier this month, Bushido Dojo of the South Shore hosted its annual throw-a-thon. Sensei David Goodwin started this fundraiser 8 years ago to help the nonprofit organization, Incredibly Blessed. This event devotes a day for martial arts students to complete as many judo throws as possible within 60 seconds. Sponsors pledged donations per throw, ranging from a quarter all the way to $10. According to the organization's founder, Annmarie Cotello, Incredibly Blessed is working with Staten Island University Hospital to provide toys, games, and…

Why Should We Improve Our Dining Rooms?

Many people have dining rooms in their house even if it's part of their kitchen. It is one of the most important rooms to be featured in the sale of a home due to how often homeowners socially interact in the space that can be found at the heart of any family's get-together. Dining rooms are not just for eating with the family however, as they are often also used for hosting food parties, having game nights, or interacting with our friends and family. This particular room is special because we can bond over the simplest things with our friends and family while we enjoy our meals. After all, food makes us very happy, and we want to express that happiness in the dining room also!

Hiya everyone! I'm Daniel C., one of the blog writers putting out some of the things you've (hopefully) had the pleasure to read over the last month or so.

Who am I?

I'm a recent Stuyvesant graduate going into NYU. I've lived on Staten Island, near the Verrazano Bridge my entire life, and still will for the next four years.

My current career aspirations are to go to medical school in hopes of becoming a doctor (what kind, I'm not sure yet). My hobbies, however, tend to be more focused around technology, graphic design, and writing.

What was my experience at Tom Crimmins Realty?

When I came to Tom Crimmins Realty from the SYEP program, I didn't expect much at all, and honestly expected a boring job that didn't offer much - something very…

Accessibility is a huge consideration when choosing a home. Although there is no place like home, you want the security of knowing you can run errands, go to work, or school with ease, even without a car. Luckily for Staten Islanders, this borough is all about easy transit. Besides the very commonly used MTA buses, there is also the SIR or Staten Island Railroad.

What is the Staten Island Railroad (SIR)?

The SIR is a rapid transit system that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, comparable the the MTA subway system. However, the SIR is an elevated train, allowing you to get a gorgeous view of Richmond County during your trip. Trains every 15 minutes during rush hour, with both local and express service available, which runs non stop from Great Kills

What is Private Mortgage Insurance?

Private Mortgage Insurance, or PMI, is an insurance policy that pays out to a lender in case a homeowner defaults on a mortgage.

The homeowner pays a monthly or one-time premium on their mortgage payments, but the lender is the one getting the protection.

PMI is usually requested for and arranged by the lender, and is offered by private insurance companies. Lenders usually request PMI if the homeowner wishes to put less than a 20% downpayment on the house, and usually require the policy to be in place until there is at least a 20% Loan-To-Value, or LTV ratio on the house. The LTV ratio is calculated simply by taking the value of a loan on a house and dividing it by the value of the house. For example, if a…

Tucked away in the heart of our borough, lie 164 acres of grassy, scenic land, known as Willowbrook Park. This park is one of Richmond County’s many Greenbelt Conservation lands, containing protected space for wildlife, along with various recreational areas and activities. It is located in New Springville, only minutes away from the Staten Island Mall. Yet, this park still manages to feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of Richmond Avenue, giving Staten Islanders and visitors a chance to escape into nature.
