In early March, silive.com announced the list of this year's Women of Achievement. We are very fortunate to know and be friends with Sheree Goode, whose true colors speak for themselves. Genuine, kind-hearted, focused - are only a few of the thousands words to describe Sheree.

Today at the Hilton Garden Inn, we were honored to see Sheree being recognized for all her work and volunteering in the community.

Congratulations to the following women as well: Linda Cutler Hauck, Grace M. Murphy, Alicia Palermo-Reddy, Linda K. Steinman, and Janice Giacalone-Stoffers.

As part of the Probation Department's Neighborhood Opportunity Network -- or NeOn - Goode spends one day a week at Daytop/Samaritan Village treatment center in Mariners Harbor, a…

"Pull open the door and you are in a Southerwestern cantina, with walls reminiscent of sun-dried clay, a glowing fireplace and memorabilia of the borough's unlikely 1930s rodeo days." - NEW YORK TIMES

When Adobe Blues in New Brighton on the Staten Island North Shore first opened, it showcased 45 brands of beer and the dining area opened about a year later.

Recently, the Mexican restaurant and bar Adobe Blues ranked in the top 10 for biggest selection, variety, rarest brews and cheapest prices among hundreds of bars around the city.

The draft list changes regularly and there are myriad options for bottle consumption, depending your preference. There's live music many nights, too, and food should you need it. If you don't end up ordering a plate…

Members of VVA Thomas J. Tori Chapter 421 at Memorial Park located in Castleton Corners.

In January 1973 a peace agreement was signed ending the direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. The last American troops were withdrawn on March 29 that same year, but the battle did not end then. On April 30, 1975, the last few Americans still in South Vietnam were airlifted out of the country.

To memorialize those who were lost, the Memorial Park was opened in Castleton Corners in May 1988, as a part of the New York State Armory.

Gene DiGiacomo, President of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 421, has said, "We were worried about what was going to happen to it when we were gone."

This past year, the park has had some massive changes and reopened June…

50 years ago today, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge became the first pathway from Staten Island to Brooklyn and visa versa.

"When the Verrazano opened to traffic on November 21, 1964, it was the longest cable suspension bridge in the world, edging out its West Coast rival, the Golden Gate Bridge, by a mere 60 feet. Today it remains the longest in the United States, spanning 9,865 feet. The Verrazano remains the major commuting artery connecting Staten Island to the rest of New York City, carrying nearly 200,000 drivers each day." Staten Island will now have something else to be proud of: home of the second largest film and tv production complex in the country - outside of Hollywood. Staten Island is no stranger to movie productions or being a backdrop in numerous films and shows. The Godfather house is located on Emerson Hill, Jim Carrey filmed Mr. Popper's Penguins in the Staten Island Zoo, and you might spot local landmarks in countless episodes of Law & Order.

It is confirmed that the former Arthur Kill Correctional Facility will be converted to a film lot. This will be the fourth lot that the Island has seen. Fred Scott's Movie Ranch was located on Sand Land in South Beach by in the 1890s to 1914. New Brighton and Stapleton hosted Biograph Company from 1906 to 1922.…
