Staten Islanders are making a difference in a charitable way for a topic and concern that seems taboo at times. September is Suicide Prevention Month and local Staten Island businesses are hosting events where proceeds go to support American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide.
Silver Lake Golf Course had an outing on September 10th called "Strokes for Life," which Tom Crimmins Realty gave a generous donation.

Last week, Sunday, September 7th, PepperJack Grill hosted an art show opening for their new exhibit - "Guitars for Life". Local Staten Island artists hand painted one-of-a-kind guitars that will be raffled during a rock show on October 5th, which will also be held at PepperJack Grill.
So how does 'Guitars for Life' relate to Suicide Prevention Month?
"Music is an excellent tool that can encourage positive feelings," said Melissa Sweet, music teacher in mid-New Jersey and part owner of Sweet Music Academy with her husband Jay. "Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies. When we listen to music, endorphins are released in the brain and can reduces stress and anxiety."
'Guitars for Life' is a charity raffle - the guitars are raffled at $20 for three and $10 for the autographed Peter Martin guitar.
"Guitars were donated by individuals and Castellano's House of Music in Graniteville provided a bunch at cost. The Von Public Relations Agency donated the Little Martin." (x)

You can view more of the beautifully painted guitars at PepperJack Grill in their dining area until October 5th., which is the same day of the charity rock show. There are a total of 14 guitars - 13 guitars were painted by local Staten Island artists and the last guitar is a Little Martin which is signed by local rock musicians.
On October 5th, Out of the Darkness Community Walk will be held at Clove Lakes Park.
