Does the scent of your home really matter?

When it comes to selling a home, the scent of your home does make a huge difference to prospective purchasers. When it comes to spending time in a space, buyers stepping into the home for the first time have viewed photos online with the hopes of loving the walkthrough. When preparing to sell a house, homeowners should come locate any odors and defuse the odor by addressing the underlying cause rather than covering the odor. Prepared food, household appliances, items such as clothing, animals, soot and mildew, and even dusty ventilation systems all make buyers turn away. If you clean your space regularly it can create a significant difference in the aroma of your property. Cleaning on a regular basis before selling your home may avoid stale, musty air from lingering in the house.

The scent you decide to use throughout should also be based upon where your home is located; sunny and breezy weather compared to frigid and mountain areas.

Some scents that should be used when showing your home to prospective buyers are:

Vanilla: shows warmth, gentleness, care, purity and simplicity in a home. If you want your home to smell like vanilla without the use of chemicals you can combine two caps of vanilla extract in a cup and bake for one hour at 300 degrees.

Citrus: associated with cleanliness which makes us feel healthier, even far more powerful. In a pot add a handful of sliced lemons and limes and bring it to a boil. The solution simmers, the fresh, clean aroma of citrus fills your home.

Pine and Cedar: aromatic plants that can be combined to produce a rich scent.

Some ways you can make your home smell better aside from home remedies is candles—ones made of wax or oil that are properly placed throughout the home may rapidly improve the atmosphere. Reed diffusers, great product for the bathroom. Deodorizing disks, good use in shoe closets, laundry baskets and under sinks to make everything smell fresh. Oil plug-ins that you may put into electrical outlets and release the scent over a period of days are also available.
