Staten Island is broken up into three different community districts which are: North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore.

Today we will be breaking down all the history about the Staten Island neighborhood, Huguenot. This neighborhood is home to the South Shore and to the zip code 10309 and 10312. It was first known as "Bloomingview'' but was subsequently given that name in honor of the Huguenots, led by Daniel Perrin, who fled religious persecution and settled in the region in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Huguenot is bounded to the north by Arden Heights, to the east by Annadale, to the west by Woodrow, and to the south by Prince's Bay.

The neighborhood was named after French Protestants who arrived in the region in the 17th century and established one of the island's earliest permanent communities after escaping persecution in Catholic-dominated France. The Staten Island Railway's Huguenot station became operational in 1860 after the railroad's extension to Tottenville. Despite their not being a park nearby, this station was given the name "Huguenot Park," and by 1971 the term "Park" had been eliminated. The New York Public Library's Huguenot Park branch, which opened one block west of the station, still has the name.

Huguenot is served by many local buses around the surrounding streets. S59, S78, s55 and S56. Express buses in the area include SIM2, SIM8, SIM24 and SIM25. On top of all of that the neighborhood also is served by many schools such as P.S. 005, I.S.075 and Tottenville High School.

As you may see, Staten Island exudes so much history that is still honored throughout our neighborhoods. Huguenot is home to many people from Staten Island. The neighborhood is covered in every corner with many food spots, transportation, parks and schools. This neighborhood is worth learning more about and living in.
