Heartland Village

Staten Island is broken down into 14 different zip codes from 10301 to 10314 and into 67 different neighborhoods. Throughout this series of blogs, we will be discussing each and every neighborhood on Staten Island as well as breaking down the history, what stands there today and transportation and what community district it falls into. Staten Island is broken up into three different community districts which are: North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore.

Today we will be breaking down all the history about the Staten Island neighborhood, Heartland Village. This neighborhood is home to the Mid-Island and to the zip code 10314. Heartland Village is situated in Staten Island's New Springville area. Heartland Village was first known as a home complex built in the late 1960s that occupied a square-shaped area bordered by Richmond Avenue, Rockland Avenue, Richmond Hill Road, and Forest Hill Road. South of Richmond Hill Road is where the Staten Island Mall may be found. Heartland Village, one of the island's most desirable residential areas, has developed into the second major commercial and administrative center, behind St. George, thanks to its close proximity to the Staten Island Mall and several other smaller shopping malls nearby.

New Springville was formerly a rural, forested neighborhood. A number of sizable residential development communities were established on Staten Island as a result of the building of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which opened in 1964. The Heartland Village neighborhood was one of the biggest development communities to appear. Beginning in the late 1960s and continuing into the early 1980s, construction on the Heartland Village Community. The majority of the houses in Heartland Village are two-family homes with three bedrooms and six to seven rooms in the main house. These houses are of a moderate size. These mid-sized homes have grown in popularity recently since bigger homes or condominiums have received the majority of the attention in new development.

Heartland Village is served by many local buses around the surrounding streets. S44, S94, S59 and S89 which travel along Richmond Avenue. As well as, along Travis Avenue and Merry Mount Street has the S61 and S91. Express buses in the area include SIM4, SIM4X, SIM8, SIM8X, SIM31. On top of all of that the neighborhood also is served by many schools that were built as the community population grew, Daniel D. Tompkins School P.S.69 and the Rocco Laurie Intermediate School I.S.72. As well as many Pre-Schools and High Schools nearby.

As you may see, Staten Island exudes so much history that is still honored throughout our neighborhoods. Heartland Village is home to many people from Staten Island. The neighborhood is covered in every corner with many food spots, transportation, parks and schools. This neighborhood is worth learning more about and living in.
