The Memorial Day Parade is among the big events this weekend on the Island. The parade is from 11am to 3pm   The parade route starts on Forest Avenue between Decker and Victory Boulevard, heads down Hart Boulevard between Castleton and Revere, Randall Avenue between Forest and Castleton, goes down Walbrooke  Avenue between Castleton and Forest, then Gregg Place, Delafield, and Elwood Place between Randall Avenue and Walbrooke Avenue.

At  9am on Monday there is an Advance Four-Mile Run. The  start line is on  Father Capodanno Boulevard between Miller Field and Sand Lane.The Memorial Day run includes a Free Kids Fun Run at 8am. Registration is 7 to 7:30 am by the gazebo on the boardwalk. Registration for the Four-Mile Run is $35 and entries will be taken starting at 7am on race day.

At Cloves Lake Park on Saturday May 23rd Urban Park Rangers will be on hand to bring paddlers on a canoe adventure on the lake. For ages 8 and up.

Saturday May 23rd from 8pm to 11pm at The Gateway National Recreation Area in Great Kills Park there will be a Stargazing Event.  The Amateur Astronomer Association of NY will bring telescopes and stepladders.  If there is inclement weather this event will be cancelled.

Also on Saturday from 10 to 10:45 am at the Greenbelt Nature Center, 700 Rockland Ave there will be a kick-off to a three weekend session of hikes(weather-permitting), fun-filled activities, crafts and stories. Recommended for ages 5 to 7 accompanied by an adult.  There is an $8 fee per week and registration is required.  Free for members.

At Conference House Park in Tottenville starting Saturday, May 9, 11am to noon kids can make arts and crafts. This takes place every Saturday until June 20th.

With Birding Gems of Staten Island on  Sunday, May 24, from 10 am to 2 pm at Clay Pit Ponds Park Preserve you can walk the trails of the park with expert Cliff Hagen . On the 24th of May there is a Hawk Watch from 9am to 10am at High Rock Park.  Bring binoculars.
