History of Tottenville
Similar to many towns bordering Tottenville, the community was once home to Native Americans, and there's a large Native American burial ground in Conference House Park. The Conference House itself was built in the late 17th-century and was the site of the Staten Island Peace Conference in 1776, a conference that was instrumental in ending the Revolutionary War. Over the centuries, Tottenville has been a factory and shipyard town, a hub for oystering, and these day, a popular residential suburb.
