History of Huguenot
The French Huguenots originally settled this section of Staten Island in the late 1700s through the 1800s. During the mid-19th century, a train station was constructed in Huguenot along the Staten Island Railroad, bringing more and more residents to the area with each passing year. In spite of the influx that continued into the 1970s and beyond, Huguenot is still considered one of the more remote neighborhoods on Staten Island, with acres of parkland to keep it shielded from the faster pace of more crowded areas.

Huguenot's Nearby Amenities
Most of Huguenot's business district is located around the train station on Huguenot Avenue. The parts of the neighborhood to the north and south are mostly residential areas. The popular South Shore Golf Course and the Grand Oaks Country Club are situated just north of the neighborhood in Rossville, and if you head south along Huguenot Avenue, eventually, you'll find yourself surrounded by Wolfes Pond Park, one of the biggest parks in all of Staten Island. The park includes hiking trails, open fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and a small beach on Raritan Bay. There are plenty of public and private schools nearby, including a large Catholic grammar school where students can enroll through the eighth grade. There is also a branch of the New York Public Library located in Huguenot.

Transportation in Huguenot
The most convenient way to travel either on or off the Island is by using the train, which stops at the Huguenot station on Huguenot Avenue just south of the Veterans Memorial Parkway. The Veterans Parkway can also be used to head west over the Outbridge Crossing into New Jersey. Local buses stop on Luten Avenue and Amboy Road. Additionally, residents can use the West Shore Expressway to access the Staten Island Expressway and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.
