Blue Heron Park

blue heron parkThe Blue Heron Park is one of the gems of the South Shore of Staten Island. This preserve consists of six ponds, freshwater streams, marshes, and woodlands. It is home to several species including the Blue Heron bird, after which it is named after. The Blue Heron lives in the New York state area throughout the year, and migrates south before the arrival of winter in New York. The bird has a gray body, and a striking yellow bill. A sculpture of this bird greets visitors at the entrance of the Blue Heron Park. This beautiful landscape is a retreat from the busy life of the surrounding borough.
