History of Silver Lake
The neighborhood was formed in 1917 inside of Silver Lake Park, which surrounds Staten Island's largest body of water, the Silver Lake Reservoir. The water for Silver Lake was brought in from the Ashokan Reservoir, located miles away in upstate New York's Catskill region, the same upstate reservoir that provides all of the New York City metropolitan area's drinking water. Since Silver Lake's establishment, people have flocked to the area, looking to live on one of the neighborhood's residential streets.
