History of Rossville

Rossville has a rich and storied history. Once home to Native Americans, Rossville was settled by Europeans in the late 17th-century. After slavery was abolished in New York State in the 19th-century, an area called Sandy Ground, a stop along the Underground Railroad, became a haven for freemen who moved there in order to begin life anew. Sandy Ground is now an historical site and local landmark in Rossville.
