Staten Island Mall is a located in the New Springville neighborhood. It is an indoor shopping mall and the largest retail center on the island. The mall is owned by GGP Inc. of Chicago, Illinois and has been around for many years.

Before it was the mall, the land was once occupied by the Staten Island Airport, which opened in 1941. However, the site was later sold in 1955 with a shopping and amusement center, known as the Staten Island Center. The construction didn't start until 1970 and it was open later in 1973. The mall's original developer was Feist and Feist Realty Corp. When the Rouse Company acquired the mall in 1980, they remodeled the mall by adding additional escalators, and additional trees and several new fountains throughout the mall.

On April 16, 2009, General Growth Properties (now GGP Inc.) filed for bankruptcy amid sharply reduced revenues and a crippling debt burden of over $25 billion. It was a horrible downfall for the mall, and the U.S. economy had a dramatic meltdown. However, General Growth re-emerged from bankruptcy, and Staten Island Mall started to rebuild its business. In 2010, higher-end stores began to open up in the empty spaces and by 2011, numerous stores started its business in the mall.

The mall planned for a renovation in 2016, to have a more updated modern storefront with new restaurants and retailers like Zara and Ulta Beauty. They also planned to include a new parking garage, a Dave & Buster's, and AMC movie theater.

New stores are popping out in the mall, ready to get some customers. There are spaces in the mall that are being demanded by the retailers and that's the main reason the mall is expanding.  As the mall expand, more stores will be coming soon. here are some stores that will be opening soon:

  • Barnes & Noble Booksellers
  • Chick-Fil-A
  • Dave & Buster's
  • Dough Life
  • Dxl Mens Apparel
  • Green Leafs, Taco Bell, Villa Italian
  • Lands' End
  • Lidl
  • Melt Shop
  • Opinions
  • Popeye's
  • Poukei
  • Rita's Italian Ice
  • Santander Bank
  • Sleep Number
  • Tommy's Tavern + Tap

The Staten Island mall's new stores will soon open its door to their mall lovers. The construction has been going on for many months and millions of dollars being spent spend on the construction. Visit the mall to see its process. Several local buses stop and travel through or on the perimeter of the mall's campus. They include the S44, S94, S59, S89, s61, and S91.
