When you're moving from your old home into your new Staten Island home, you want to keep your furniture tidy as possible. If you don't, the furniture could become extremely messy, which won't match the beauty of your brand new home.

So, here are some tips to help you out:

1. Needed Supplies

In order to keep your furniture from any damages, you should have these items in stock:

  1. Basic Tools for disassembling furniture like screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
  2. Plastic Bags
  3. Plastic Trash Bags
  4. Cardboard Boxes
  5. Masking Tape
  6. Newsprint/Newspaper
  7. Bubble Wrap
  8. Furniture Dolly

You can wrap your furniture with items from 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. Then, wrap or cover those materials with masking tape to tightly secure your furniture. If you have any large pieces of furniture that you want to take apart, then you can use the basic tools, which brings us to our next tip:

2. Disassemble Your Large Pieces of Furniture

The safe bet for keeping large pieces of furniture tidy is to dismantle them. Many pieces of furniture are heavy and hard to carry or move, so you can take apart the pieces to make it lighter and easier to move from street to street, avenue to avenue, home to home, etc. After you take apart your large pieces of furniture, be sure to keep screws and small pieces of furniture in a plastic bag taped to the specific piece of furniture that it came from. That way, you can keep track of which screws go with which piece of furniture, so you can assemble at your new home.

3. Putting Materials in Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are the perfect material to put your items and furniture in. It keeps water away from soaking or damaging your furniture, as well as keeps dust away from your clean pillows, blankets, etc. In addition, it won't tear easily, and it is easier for you to carry a bunch of small items with one hand. However, if you have any wooden furniture, you should cover them with furniture padding then wrap with plastic wrapping or bags because it traps the moist in and swells the wood.

4. Protecting Corners of Your Furniture

Many of the corners of the furniture can be easily damaged and worn. To protect your furniture, you should wrap the corners with bubble wrap and tape some cardboard cutouts from extra boxes. This way, the corners are securely wrapped and won't take much damage from bumpy rides or falls.

5. Protecting Fragile Furniture

Moving from home to home can put your fragile furniture at greater risk. To protect them, cover the objects with blankets and then wrap them with packing tape. If possible, you should keep the fragile objects in your car or close to you because you can control the speed of your car to ensure a safe trip to your new home. So, you can reduce the number of cracks your object could have.

6. Don't Expose Your Furniture to Extreme Temperatures

Weather can tear and wear your furniture to a high degree. If you have leather sofas, couches, or other furniture, you shouldn't expose your furniture to extreme heat. If you wrapped these items with bubble wrap or plastic wrapping, it could shrink the wrapping and stick to the leather or other fabrics due to extremely hot temperatures. The extreme cold is also bad for your furniture. If you expose your leather sofas, couches, etc. to freezing temperatures, it will damage and crack it from being too stiff and harden.

7. Apply a Coat of Wax to Wooden Furniture

Many of our furniture has a wooden texture, and they are easily cracked or eroded. If you want to prevent these occurrences, apply a coat of furniture polish or wax on all your wooden textures on your furniture. After all, wood is easily harmed and damaged by environmental and climate changes. So, we want to do our best to protect them from those occurrences.

8. Clean and Dry your Furniture

Before you move your items from your old house into your new house, you want to make sure the furniture is thoroughly clean before setting it down into the new clean floors or walls. You should find and hire professionals to help you carefully clean your furniture. By cleaning your furniture, it can help reduce the chances of erosion of leather materials or cracks of wooden textures, since they will also dry them thoroughly.
