Today we will be breaking down all the history about the Staten Island neighborhood, Mariners Harbor. This neighborhood is home to the North Shore and to the zip code 10303.It is bounded to the east by Lake Avenue, to the south by Forest Avenue, to the north by Richmond Terrace, and to the west by Holland Avenue. Arlington is a common name for Mariners Harbor's northwest corner.

The Kill Van Kull, which forms the area's northern boundary and is bordered by Elm Park to the east, Port Ivory to the west, Graniteville to the south, is where oysters and other seafood items were first harvested in the 19th century, earning the neighborhood its name. Shipbuilding, repair, and maritime salvage operations were later advances. Throughout the 20th century, pollution caused a decline in fishing activity.

A remnant of the area's maritime heritage is the Mariners Harbor Yacht Club. Erastus Wiman, the promoter who assisted the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad to access New York via Staten Island, is honored with the name Erastina, which was given to the first rail station constructed here in 1886. Buffalo Bill's "Wild West Show" was staged nearby on vacant ground, bringing nearly 10,000 more people from the St. George Ferry Terminal onto the new train line. Shortly after Wiman lost favor with the public as a result of scandal and bankruptcy, Erastina changed to Mariners Harbor.

At Lake Avenue, Harbor Road, and Arlington, there are three additional stops on the Staten Island Railway's North Shore section. On March 31, 1953, passenger service on this route was terminated. Near the Union Avenue Bridge, Arthur Dreyer & Sons Lumber and Coal Co. was a significant rail customer. The coal silos now may still be seen as remnants of the site. After being repaired, the western section of this route is presently utilized by freight trains going from New Jersey to the Howland Hook Marine Terminal in Port Ivory.

In the first part of the 20th century, Bethlehem Steel, a significant landowner in the region with offices on Richmond Terrace across from Mersereau Avenue and Brewers Dry Dock, was one of the main shipping and dry dock enterprises that called Mariners Harbor home. During World War II, Bethlehem Staten Island produced destroyers for the US Navy. Two tugboat firms, K-Sea and McAllister, as well as a number of smaller dry docks, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, and Mariners Harbor Cargo Terminal, are now in operation in the region. In 2001, the tugboat owned by John McAllister was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
