Staten Island is broken up into three different community districts which are: North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore.

Today we will be breaking down all the history about the Staten Island neighborhood, Livingston. This neighborhood is home to the North Shore and to the zip code 10310. Livingston is most frequently thought of as being bounded by Bement Avenue on the west, the Kill Van Kull coastline on the north side, Henderson Avenue on the south side, and the Snug Harbor Cultural Center on the east, however there are no actual limits for any recognized areas on Staten Island. Its streets are shaded by spreading oak and elm trees, and it is dominated by huge, older homes constructed before 1900.

Francis Lovelace, the second governor of the New York colony, began farming in the region that would become Livingston in 1668, making him one of the first Europeans to settle there. Previously known as Elliotville, the area was named after renowned ophthalmologist Samuel Mackenzie Elliott, who by 1840 owned more than 30 properties there. Livingston's current name was created by Staten Island Railway authorities when they purchased resident Anson Livingston's estate and used it to name a station that was later constructed close to the current junction of Richmond Terrace and Bard Avenue. The tracks on this branch are still present, but there is no sign of the former Livingston station, as there is with the two other former stations on either side Sailors' Snug Harbor and West Brighton. This station was located on the now-defunct North Shore branch of the railway, on which passenger service ended in 1953.

Livingston is served by two pairs of local buses; S40 and S90 as well as S44 and S94.

As you may see, Staten Island exudes so much history that is still honored throughout our neighborhoods. Livingston is home to many people from Staten Island. The neighborhood is covered in every corner with many food spots, transportation, parks and schools. This neighborhood is worth learning more about and living.
