Staten Island is broken down into 14 different zip codes from 10301 to 10314 and into 67 different neighborhoods. Throughout this series of blogs, we will be discussing each and every neighborhood on Staten Island as well as breaking down the history, what stands there today and transportation and what community district it falls into. Staten Island is broken up into three different community districts which are: North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore.

Today we will be breaking down all the history about the Staten Island neighborhood, Lighthouse Hill. This neighborhood is home to the Mid-Island and to the zip code 10306 and 10314. North of Richmondtown, south of Todt Hill, and west of Grant City are the surrounding locations of Lighthouse Hill.

When the Staten Island Range Light, which stands tall over the Lower New York Bay, was constructed there in 1912, Lighthouse Hill, formerly known as Richmond Hill, received its current name. 21 miles distant, its original light could still be visible. Richmond Hill Road, which is found near the southern end of the hill, still has the original name of the neighborhood. The series of hills that extends from Staten Island's northeastern corner to its southernmost point is called Lighthouse Hill. Richmond Creek is located near the base of the hill's eastern crest and is bordered by Staten Island Greenbelt parks on all sides.

Lighthouse Hill, like the other Staten Island hilltop communities, is renowned for having some of the island's most lavish homes—only Todt Hill is grander—on display there. The following important locations may be found atop Lighthouse Hill, in addition to the magnificent views of old Richmondtown and New York Harbor: The oldest Himalayan-style building in the country is the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, which is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The Crimson Beech, the sole Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in New York City, was designated a monument in 1990. The 1836 farmhouse-turned-clubhouse known as the LaTourette House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and is currently used as the clubhouse for the LaTourette Golf Course.

Lighthouse Hill is served by many local buses around the surrounding streets. S54, S74 and S84 as the local buses and the SIM15 express bus on Richmond Road.

As you may see, Staten Island exudes so much history that is still honored throughout our neighborhoods. Lighthouse Hill is home to many people from Staten Island. The neighborhood is covered in every corner with many food spots, transportation, parks and schools. This neighborhood is worth learning more about and living in.
