Every homeowner is constantly thinking of improvements they would like to make to their home. These renovations will make your living space a little more lovable for you and will appeal to future buyers if you’re thinking of selling in the near future.

A Fireplace

Whether you have one or none, adding another fireplace to your home will only increase its coziness quotient. If you live in a warmer climate area, consider an outdoor hearth to extend your living space outside on cool evenings. Make sure your insulation is up to date too! You want to make sure all the warm air that your fireplace is making stays in your house.

Big Ideas for Small Baths

This upgrade will require a little bit of saving, but the price tag is worth investment. Replacing tiles and adding mirrors create an illusion of space; larger-scale mirrors make space look bigger. Wooden cabinets create contrast, while providing storage and counter space.

Hardwood Floors

If it’s time to replace the carpet, consider installing hardwood floors. Wood floors are typically easier to keep clean and don’t show as much wear from pets. There’s even a good chance you have wood underneath some carpet in your house.

Paneling and Popcorn

Nothing is more outdated than wood paneling and a popcorn ceiling. Rip off that 70's paneling and go over it with drywall; you can purchase drywall for as little as 50 cents per square foot and it’s easy to paint once installed. A bright and fresh start always wins. These aren’t your parent’s drop ceilings. Today’s drop ceilings come in pressed metal, compressed wood panels and other attractive designs. They’re affordable, simple to install and allow easy access to the plumbing and electrical systems.

Stainless Steel Appliances

Stainless steel resists smudges, fingerprints and scuff marks, making it very easy to clean and maintain. These appliances last longer because they do not rust, and does not absorb bacteria and/or germs like plastic. Buyers are also attracted to the industrial look of stainless steel, so your upgrade will most likely pay off. And, you’ll get to enjoy your new appliances until then.

If you’ve considered making one of the above renovations to your home, then it’s time to get serious and look at your budget. If you’re a little hesitant, then you can always ask a real estate agent to evaluate your home to determine if it’s a solid investment. Please call 718.370.3200 or email us.
