Due to the historical importance of Concord, Massachusetts, the town's name was changed from Dutch Farms to Concord in 1845. Henry David Thoreau and Judge William Emerson, brother of Ralph Waldo Emerson and namesake of neighboring Emerson Hill, were the initial residents of Concord.

Currently, Concord is made up of single-family houses, modest apartment complexes, and condos. Some of Staten Island's busiest streets, including Clove Road, Richmond Road, Targee Street, and the Staten Island Expressway, pass through the neighborhood's heart. Early in the 1960s, a large portion of Concord's territory was condemned to make way for the Staten Island Expressway, a crucial east-west route. Price Street is now Narrows route North, an access route for the expressway. While the building of its permanent site in Oakwood was being built, Monsignor Farrell High School used an extension of St. Sylvester's Elementary School in Concord during its first year of operation. Concord High School, a tiny public alternative high school, is situated in the area, which is also the location of a sizable medical arts complex that grew up around the old Doctor's Hospital of Staten Island, which shut down in 2003.

Concord is served by many local buses around the surrounding streets. S74, S76, S84 and S86 along Targee Street. S53 and S93 are along Clove Lakes and Narrows Road. As well as the SIM15 and SIM35 is the express bus which goes to Manhattan. The neighborhood also is served by the elementary school P.S. 48 and Concord High School, as well as many Catholic schools.

As you may see, Staten Island exudes so much history that is still honored throughout our neighborhoods. Concord is home to many people from Staten Island. The neighborhood is covered in every corner with many food spots, transportation, parks and schools. This neighborhood is worth learning more about and living in.
