Originally known as Centerville, this area of Castleton, Staten Island, came to be more commonly known as Castleton Corners after a post office bearing that name opened there in 1872. The term "Castleton" alludes to the Irish village of Cassiltowne, County Kildare, where Thomas Dongan was born.
