Do you ever think to yourself that "there's nothing to do on Staten Island"? Well...you are wrong. Besides the usual shopping at Staten Island Mall, going to Ralph's Ices or the movies, Staten Island has a lot more to offer:
- The Staten Island Zoo is always a focal point when school is out. The Zoo recently had new additions to its exotic inventory. There are also class/group programs specified for age groups.
- Need to blow off some fun without getting in trouble? 5050 Skatepark is NYC's open indoor skate park and is opened 7 days a week to all bikes, skateboards, scooters, and rollerbladers. They also offer summer sessions up to 8 weeks long.
- Staten Island Children's Museum urge to nurture the creativity and curiosity natural to all children, to recognize and celebrate different learning styles, and to demonstrate vividly that learning can be exciting and fun. Museum also offers summer, school and volunteering programs
- Ever felt adventurous and wanted to go horse back riding? In South Shore, Charleston, Get Over It and Ride is a down to earth environment to find horse boarding, lessons and walk-in pony rides.
- Snug Harbor had quiet the history before it turned into a cultural center and botanical gardens. Snug Harbor is constantly hosting a variety of events to keep an eye out.
- With summer approaching, Staten Island Mall is setting up its carnival rides in the parking lot off of Richmond Avenue.
- A little envious of Katniss or Robin Hood and his merry men? Willowbrook Park offers archery lessons and memberships for anyone who is looking to get their hands on a bow and arrow.
- Staten Island's Fleet Week is back at the end of May! Be sure to check out the navy and coast guard ships that will be docked at Sullivan Pier off Stapleton.
- RollerJam doesn't just offer fun for teens, but for adults as well! Roller rink, bounce party and arcade - what more needs to be said?
- Batter Up! Opening day for the Staten Island Yankees isn't until June 13, but it's not too late to order tickets. On June 28th the Staten Island Yankees will go against Brooklyn Cyclones in support of the Eden II & Genesis Foundation.
- Did you know Staten Island has six public locations for kayaking?
- Staten Island GoKarts - the only go kart track on Staten Island - also offer a chance to swing in its batting cages and features a hockey rink. Staten Island GoKart is squished between Castleton Corners and Manor Heights.
- As a part of Willowbrook Park, Carousel for All Children was originally designed and built between 1997 and 1999 in Mansfield, Ohio by Carousel Works - the only company in North America that creates wooden carousels. According to the artisans, the carousel in Willowbrook Park is the largest and fanciest one they’ve created.
- The Full Cup, located on Van Duzer Street, constantly have a variety of shows and events they host. If you're looking for open mic, karaoke or slam poetry night, the Full Cup probably has your cup of tea.
- Ever wanted to experience a night under the stars without being too far from the city? Public camping at Fort Wadsworth provides that opportunity for overnight tent camping up to 14 days. Camp sites are primitive. Each has a picnic table, a grill and a fire ring. Restrooms and cold showers are located at the facility.
- Mark your calendars! Historic Richmond Town is bringing back the All American Drive-In for six nights in mid-August. Featured films have yet been announced, but it sure to be another successful year.
- In a few weeks, Saint George Greenmarket opens. "Get first dibs on the freshest seasonal fruit, produce, cheese, meat, seafood and baked goods every Saturday."
